McGinnis Lochridge is pleased to announce that Timothy L. (Tim) LaFrey has joined the firm as Of Counsel in Austin. Tim joins the firm’s Corporate and Tax Practice Group, bringing his extensive experience in the areas of corporate finance, securities, healthcare and mergers & acquisitions.

“We are honored to have Tim joining our firm to add another dimension to the services we offer clients. The combination of Tim’s real world business acumen with his extensive experience advising clients on complex business transactions and issues makes him a key legal advisor,” said Edward McHorse, who chairs the practice group. “We’re pleased that he’s pursuing the next chapter of his legal career with our firm.”

“McGinnis Lochridge, one of Austin’s pioneering law firms, recognizes the importance of understanding the unique challenges and opportunities each client faces, and tailoring legal solutions to their situation,” said LaFrey. “I’m honored to work alongside a forward-thinking group of attorneys who are focused on delivering strategic solutions for our clients.”

In his position as Executive Vice President with Ascension Seton’s Texas Ministry Market, Tim oversaw the Hospital, Clinical Enterprise and Insurance Services divisions. His work included evaluation and development of joint venture opportunities and strategic alliances, and oversight of physician management services operations. He served on the Ascension Seton Board of Trustees for more than five years before joining the organization.

From 2007 to 2011, Tim served as president and a member of the Board of Directors of American Physicians Service Group, Inc., a publicly traded insurance and financial services company. During his tenure, the company was recognized by Forbes and Fortune magazines as one of the fastest-growing public companies in the U.S.

Tim began his career as an accountant with KPMG Peat Marwick before practicing law for 21 years. He was an attorney at the Austin firm Small, Craig & Werkenthin, PC, and later at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld, where he held numerous senior positions within the firm. He served as partner-in-charge of the Austin office, chaired the firm’s Business Transactions Department, and was firm-wide head of the health care corporate transactions practice group.

Tim earned his BBA in Accounting from Texas A&I University and received his J.D. from The University of Texas School of Law.
