McGinnis, Lochridge & Kilgore has an extensive roster of qualified oil and gas lawyers who represent energy industry clients in a variety of trial, legislative, and regulatory matters.
Litigation – The lawyers represent an entire range of clients in the energy industry, including major oil and gas companies, independent oil and gas companies, and landowners. They have handled a wide range of matters, from individual landowner actions to nationwide class actions. More specifically, our lawyers have handled disputes involving mineral title ownership, operating agreements, implied covenants in oil and gas leases, bad faith pooling, lease forfeiture, natural gas contract and royalty underpayment disputes arising from natural gas and crude oil pricing practices.
The firm’s lawyers represent energy clients in Texas and throughout the country and have extensive experience representing oil and gas clients in complex arbitration, including hydrocarbon pore volume determinations in the nation’s largest oil fields. Our lawyers have proven skills in geology, geophysics, and petroleum engineering.
Legislative – For over thirty years the firm has represented clients in connection with major energy issues considered by the Texas Legislature. They have represented the interests of major oil companies, independents, trade associations, royalty owners, and landowners, in legislation involving exploration and production, refining, marketing, taxation, pipeline, environmental protection, eminent domain, and royalty issues. The firm was involved in the passage of oil and gas tax incentives and abatements and the defeat of proposed oil and gas tax increases. They drafted many of the state's major energy, environmental, pipeline, marketing, and surface mining programs and represented associated groups of producers, pipeline companies and refiners, as well as the industry's trade association, the Texas Oil and Gas Association.
Regulatory – The firm represents oil and gas operators, both large and small, before the Railroad Commission of Texas. Our representation includes work for pipelines, lignite mines, and underground hydrocarbon storage operators. Its lawyers counsel clients in the ways they can develop properties to achieve competitive goals, in compliance with the law. They specialize in translating difficult technical evidence into plain language. They understand geology, hydrology, geophysics, log analysis, reservoir engineering, pipeline operations, rock mechanics, and mining engineering. Over the years, the group’s lawyers have been lead lawyers in the biggest cases to come before the Texas Railroad Commission and have represented operators in difficult high profile cases against public interest groups and municipalities. They work daily with the Commission to solve and avoid regulatory problems. The group’s lawyers know the Railroad Commission, and have the skills and experience needed for regulatory success.
