Job Title: Marketing and Business Development Manager
Job Summary: The Marketing and Business Development Manager will report to the firm’s Executive Director and will work closely with the firm’s practice group leaders and groups to implement practice group business development plans, firm initiatives, and day-day coordination of other business development and marketing projects as they arise.
Job Description
Approx. 50%: Work closely with the Executive Director and practice group leaders to develop the firm’s business development and marketing plans and objectives and assist in the day-to-day implementation of those plans and objectives. The following tasks are likely to be involved in those efforts:
- engaging in research, analysis, and intelligence gathering, especially regarding industry trends, for use in business development activities.
- developing, managing, updating, and maximizing the value of the firm’s business development and marketing goals.
- Developing and coordinating public relations, community, and media relationships, communications, and events.
- Assisting in planning, promoting, coordinating, supporting, and evaluating firm-sponsored meetings and events
- Assisting the firm in working with outside vendors and consultants that provide communications, advertising, technology, and other business development and marketing services.
- Tracking and maintaining business and professional association memberships and work with attorneys to maximize these relationships through speaking engagements, committee participation, and leadership roles.
- Coordinating the firm’s RFP process and assist attorneys in the preparation of legal services proposals, requests for information, and responses to RFPs.
Approx. 10%: Handle and coordinate the effective maintenance and processing of administrative tasks associated with marketing and business development, including tracking expenditures and reimbursements in order to assist in managing the firm’s business development and marketing budgets and monitor and control department expenditures accordingly.
Approx. 10%: Manage and update the firm’s digital channels in order to enhance the firm’s visibility in a manner that is consistent with its business development and marketing goals and firm voice, including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, mcginnislaw.com, and the firm’s thought leadership channels such as oilandgaslawdigest.com, emergingtech.law, benchmark litigation, chambers and others that may be implemented.
Approx. 10%: Work with individual attorneys on:
- Developing and implementing individual business development plans and objectives.
- Utilize, researching and analyzing the firm’s CRM to identify strategic goals and business development tasks.
- Developing and implementing with the lawyer on traditional articles, blogs, Law360 articles, and speaking engagements.
Approx. 10%: Oversee maintenance of client data, including championing and maximizing the firm’s implementation and effective use of its contact relationship management software (CRM)
Approx. 10%: Maintain, improve, update, and produce marketing materials for the firm as a whole, and for each practice group, such as brochures, client alerts, email campaigns, newsletters, press releases, and the firm’s website.
Annual Targets
- Individual BD Plans: Work with income partners and associates on developing and implementing individual business development plans, including:
- research and analyze CRM, practice area, and individual goals.
- identify potential business development goals and marketing opportunities.
- for each income partner and associate, cooperatively develop list of 20 or more leads and an individual business development and marketing calendar covering tasks associated with the identified leads, networking goals, marketing goals, and community involvement opportunities as applicable (e.g., non-profit and/or board involvement).
- Practice Group BD Plans: Work with practice group leaders to develop Practice Group Business Development Plans for each of litigation, oil and gas, corporate, employment, wealth preservation, and administrative practice groups.
- Marketing Materials:
- Work with Executive Director to develop and compile a standard set of firm-wide marketing materials.
- Work with each practice group leaders to develop and compile standard sets of marketing materials for each practice group.
- CRM:
- Assist the firm in utilizing CRM with the goal of championing the CRM and realizing its potential value.
- Pitch Tracking: Work with practice group leaders and attorneys to utilize the firms pitch/RFP tracking database to ensure we are tracking and including the underrepresented pollution for continue Mansfield certification.
- Firm Events:
- Assist in planning and executing business development event in Austin.
- Assist in planning and executing business development event in Houston.
- Assist in planning and executing business development event in Dallas.
- Digital Marketing Initiatives:
- Work with practice group leaders and attorneys to make periodic updates to com (goal of approx. 2 or 3 per month), and corresponding updates to social media channels.
- Work with attorneys from at least three different practice groups to publish and circulate at least six thought leadership pieces, including assisting in the following: (1) research, analysis, and intelligence gathering in order to identify potential topics of interest, (2) assist in editing and shaping the general aim and tone of piece, (3) identify ideal formats and locations to publish and circulate the piece, and (4) assist in implementing a strategy for maximizing the realized value out of such efforts. For example, this may include pieces related to com, emergingtech.com, Law360, trade associations, magazines, various presentations and speaking engagements, etc.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree
- 6-10 years of progressively responsible business development/marketing work experience in the legal field or other professional services organizations
- Excellent interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills, and strong editing and proofreading skills
- Proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), Adobe Acrobat, SalesForce or other customer relationship management software, and other technology areas, including websites, intranets, databases, knowledge management tools, and social media.
- Experience managing social media presence across multiple platforms for a law firm or similar professional services organization.
- Strong project management and event planning abilities, including demonstrated ability to multi-task, prioritize, analyze, organize, attend to detail, and follow through.
