McGinnis Lochridge is pleased to welcome Gregory S. Mathews as Counsel, bringing more than 45 years of experience in the oil and gas industry, including 34 years practicing law.

Greg advises on energy regulatory, legislative, and governmental affairs matters, drawing on his extensive in-house experience and practical understanding of the oil and gas industry. He joins the firm after 18 years as Senior Counsel at Chevron U.S.A. Inc., where he handled legal matters involving the company’s upstream oil and gas assets in Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas.

During his tenure at Chevron, Greg also led legislative and governmental affairs efforts before the Texas Legislature in Austin and the New Mexico Legislature in Santa Fe. He helped draft and pass several significant Texas oil and gas laws addressing Railroad Commission preemption, state lands offset wells, beneficial reuse of treated produced water, and the plugging and abandonment of inactive and orphan wells.

Before joining Chevron, Greg spent nearly 17 years as a shareholder at Winstead PC in Houston, where he handled energy litigation, transactional projects, and other civil matters while also serving in firm management. Earlier in his career, he worked for 12 years as an oil and gas landman, developing a practical understanding of title, leasing, and land-related issues that continues to inform his legal practice.

McGinnis Lochridge looks forward to Greg’s contributions to the firm and his continued work serving clients across the energy industry.
