Christian M. Shaffer

Christian Shaffer is an associate in the Houston office where he represents clients in commercial and energy-related disputes. He joined the firm following two judicial clerkships and brings a practice grounded in dispositive motion practice, legal research and writing, and the procedural mechanics of moving a case through state and federal court. Before law school graduation he worked on matters spanning mass torts and premises liability, debtor-creditor and merchant-cash-advance disputes, and breach-of-contract and trade-secret litigation.

Christian most recently served as a judicial law clerk to Justice John P. Devine of the Supreme Court of Texas, where he prepared study memoranda and internal bench memoranda, drafted portions of majority and per curiam opinions and separate writings, and observed oral argument and conference. Before that he clerked for United States Magistrate Judge John D. Love in the Eastern District of Texas, handling day-to-day docket management, drafting orders, memorandum opinions, and reports and recommendations, and preparing the court for mediations. That experience gives him a practical read on how judges and their chambers actually evaluate briefing — an advantage he brings to every motion and brief he writes.

A Tomball native, Christian earned his J.D. magna cum laude from Texas Tech University School of Law, where he served as Lead Articles Editor of the Texas Tech Law Review, was inducted into the Order of the Barristers, and competed as an oralist and brief writer on the school's national moot court teams — winning the Wayne E. Alley National Military Law Moot Court Competition and reaching the finals of the Hassell National Constitutional Law Moot Court Competition. He received academic awards in Federal Courts, Appellate Advocacy, Trial Advocacy, Business Entities, and Evidence. He earned his B.A. summa cum laude from Washington State University in Philosophy and Political Science.
